2020 was an excellent year for Poco, as they presented several devices that broke each of the ranges where they arrived. This positioned the company as an excellent alternative in the minds of users, even though they did not show all their weapons.
Why do we say this? Because the Xiaomi subsidiary kept a mobile phone in its pocket that we were all going to love. We talk about Poco F2, the successor to the Poco F1 that was never releasedbut now we know and would have surprised everyone.
Poco F2, the high-end mobile that never came and was going to be a beast
After the launch of the Poco F1, dozens of theories were made about how and when its successor would arrive. The wait was long, which fueled (even more) the number of rumors circulating on the networks. That successor arrived, but not as the Poco F2 but as the Poco F2 Pro, another fantastic mobile. Even so, Little did make the Poco F2 and it is the prototype you see in the images above.
Poco’s device it was going to be the global version of the Redmi K20S, which was also not released, but was registered in China. Its design was going to follow a line similar to that of other Xiaomi of the time: perforated screen in one corner, rear cameras with the module vertical, glass back and fingerprint reader on the side.
Regarding its specifications, the Poco F2 / Redmi K20S was going to carry an AMOLED screen with Full HD + resolution. As a Xiaomi processor I would include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 with Adreno 640 graphics, refuting rumors that pointed to a simpler chip like the Snapdragon 732G.
The images also show that the Poco F2 would have three rear cameras, although there are no details of the sensors. Besides, it would run Android 9 as the operating system, although we do not know the version of MIUI, since it was running an engineering version of AOSP. What about RAM, storage and battery? In the leak there is no mention of these things, but that does not mean that the Poco F2 was going to be a great mobile. Why did Poco never release it?
Why didn’t POCO release the Poco F2 in 2019 or 2020?
After revealing that the Poco F2 did indeed exist, the question remains as to why the company did not launch it on the market. There are different assumptions, but perhaps it has to do with the fact that Xiaomi was not sure enough that it was a good idea to promote a sub-brand. The reason? Easy, Little could cannibalize Xiaomi devices.
This is something that is already happening in part, but the company keeps it at bay. How? Leaving the Redmi K series in China (which would be the main affected), and launching the Poco globally. Has the play gone well? Definitely yes.
They are doing so well that Poco is planning to launch the Poco F2 on the market. But isn’t it never going to come? It is a complex issue because it would rival the Poco X3, but the truth is that the Poco F2 could be launched and it will be a mid-range.
